Psalm 98

1650 psalter

Israel, and Earth at large, blessed in Messiah’s Advent

Cannot we testify with David that the Lord has done marvellous things? By His grace he has made known His salvation, and also displayed His righteousness in and through the Lord Jesus Christ. He has been revealed both to the Jews and Gentiles alike, for the heathen and the ends of the earth have seen and known His salvation.

The whole earth with all its inhabitants, and all its elements, should ascribe a concert of praise to Him. When He comes to judge the earth, then every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. Even unbelieving hearts will have to acknowledge and confess that His judgment will be with righteousness and equity.

Psalm 98

¹O sing a new song to the LORD,
For wonders he hath done:
His right hand and his holy arm
Him victory hath won.

²The LORD God his salvation
Hath caused to be known;
His justice in the heathen’s sight
He openly hath shown.

³He mindful of his grace and truth
To Isr’el’s house hath been;
And the salvation of our God
All ends of th’ earth have seen.

⁴Let all the earth unto the LORD
Send forth a joyful noise;
Lift up your voice aloud to him,
Sing praises, and rejoice.

⁵With harp, with harp, and voice of psalms,
Unto JEHOVAH sing:
⁶With trumpets, cornets, gladly sound
Before the LORD the King.

⁷Let seas and all their fulness roar;
The world, and dwellers there;
⁸Let floods clap hands, and let the hills
Together joy declare

⁹Before the LORD; because he comes,
To judge the earth comes he:
He’ll judge the world with righteousness,
His folk with equity.
